Tommy Hilfiger SS18: A synthesis of the polished and the edgy
Against the backdrop entitled ‘Rock Circus’, Tommy Hilfiger SS18 showcased a collection that blended elements of a rock concert with the iconic Hilfiger colour palette.
Whether it was through the inclusion of padlock necklaces, festival wristband zippers, fingerless gloves, or PVC pants, there was a palpable tone of rawness infused in each and every piece.
Despite the presence of edgy elements, the collection exhibited a polished visual. On one shoulder of a formal trench coat was a patchwork detail of a bold red check, disrupting its typically uniform nature yet still remaining visually sharp. The iconic 90s plaid shirt was made to look more intricate with fine trimmings akin to a scarf, and in a second outfit, it was transformed into a dress like number with floral prints, synthesizing grit and femininity in a garment that created a series of fluid shapes with movement.
Athleisure was still very much on trend, and was given a stylish edge with sheer panelling and the words ‘Gigi Hadid TH’ emblazoned in a font reminiscent of Iron Maiden across the bands of a crop top and leggings.
Doused in rich hues that caught the eye, Tommy Hilfiger SS18 exhibited a selection of sharp outlines and styles with visuals reminiscent of rock concerts, creating a collection that is undoubtedly perfect for those who want to steer away from the subtler look and create a statement.
