Topshop SS18: Athleisure-meets-luxe
In a sea of deep reds, greens, silvers, baby blues, whites and blacks, Topshop SS18 proposed a ready-to-wear collection that created a whole new meaning for smart-casual.
With enough metallic to build an eveningwear wardrobe, the collection created an aesthetic that could only be described as athleisure-meets-luxe. Silk bomber jackets coloured in burgundy’s, deep greens and creams elicited a sheen reminiscent of an evening dress; embellished and adorned with pearls at the collar and the zips, Topshop SS18 created an item that put the formal into the informal. What was most interesting about the collection was the innovative assemblage of both formal and informal wear into an outfit in a manner that appeared whole, despite it consisting of contrasting styles. A knitted tanktop was paired with luminous red metallic trousers, a pearl encrusted cocoon coat was combined with a pair of silk burgundy tracksuit trousers, and a burgundy bomber jacket was combined with a midi skirt. Whilst these styles don’t sound matching on paper, they melded together in a manner that was perfect for anybody who prefers to combine glamour and comfort.
Featuring a selection of very much on trend garments, Topshop SS18 showcased the fashionable potential that combining different styles can have to create a variety of outfits suitable for many occasions.
