On 7th January Casely Hayford presented a collection that worked upon smart and classic tailoring and designs, inputting subtle touches to recognizable styles.


Focussing mostly on outerwear, the collection promoted a selection of coats and tailored wear, from the classic overcoat to the traditional suit. Many, however, possessed fine additions that set them apart from typical smart garments. This could be remarked upon with the suit jacket, in which the material was deliberately frayed, disrupting the once rigid textures and shape traditionally associated with this style of clothing. Many of the overcoats were also oversized, resulting in a more dramatic effect that drew the eye to its form. This was most effectively observed in a two piece outfit consisting of a large dark jacket and trousers, embellished with greyscale circle patterns, which created an eye catching form.


By reworking traditional designs Casely Hayford AW17 created an expansively bold collection that will single them out as a recognizable brand.

With garments printed with 90s VHS graphics, checked trousers reminiscent of pyjama bottoms, bed hair and overwhelmingly large outerwear that blanketed the models, Alex Mullins AW17 brings fashion to the living room sofa, proposing a comfortable and relaxed style.

Models crying tears of blood with their faces contoured with blood red paint featured, perhaps to allude to the bloodshed this year. This sense of discomfort was complemented with predominantly dark colours, supporting the harrowing tones and associations with the concept of fear itself.
