Burberry AW17: Bold-meets-British-eccentricity
Proposing their AW17 collection, Burberry took to the catwalk with an array of bold patterns and checks contrasted with delicate details and intertwined with a quintessentially British touch.
With models clad in jackets, macs, coats, jumpers and dresses drenched in monochrome, yellow, red, green and pink hues, Burberry illustrated a fusion of classic and contemporary. Edge-met-glamour in a collaboration between the classic nova check and colour-brim tartans with a series of elegant bedazzled embellishments and soft satins that exuded an eclectic form of luxe.
Many references to current trends featured on the catwalk, amalgamated with Burberry’s unique touch, which surfaced through the inclusion of macs and long coats, but this was most perfectly illustrated by a cuff neck shirt and skirt combo fastened with an oversized golden safety pin, where the combination of the late 90s pattern with a contemporary style fittingly blended with one another.
It was the details that set Burberry apart from others, coats were scrawled with sketches of British flags, red buses, and post boxes, infusing British eccentricity into sophistication. This imaginative application of cultural elements was most successfully achieved by a ceremonial coat. Fitted with shoulder pads, military fastenings and softened with fur lining, the garment combined the authoritative stature of a soldier with a soft glamour.
Working upon a bold-delicate dichotomy, Burberry AW17 proposes a collection that melds contrasting elements into something both stylish and wearable.
