Maharishi SS17: Crisp colours and bold statements
Maharishi SS17 showcased their collection at London Fashion Week, bringing crisp colours, camouflage and high contrast combinations to the catwalk with an underlying message.
Inspired by the motive to emphasise the presence of American and Chinese military in Africa and it’s French colonisation, much of the collection utilised familiar designs such as camouflage patterns, and recycled and adapted military uniforms.
Recurring amongst the collection were toned down appropriations of the military vest, that hung loosely off the models shoulders, echoing the more casually styled tank top. Amongst the presence of earthy greens that are typically associated with the military were crisp whites and bright yellows, evoking a refreshing summer vibe. Coral tones also graced the catwalk, injecting warmth into the colour scheme; this could be observed with regards to the long parka, which melded warm coral tones with earthy khaki stripes, resulting in a strikingly contrasted surface. Softer touches also presented themselves within Japanese influences and patterns, kimono tops featured in royal blue and white, adorned with floral patterns in coral tones and flourishing foliage and greenery that exuded an air of exoticness and intricacy.
